The Old Building is a beautifully restored, 78-year-old landmark that first opened as the R & H Grocery Store, owned by Roy and Herman Plessala. Today, it stands as a versatile venue that blends history with modern elegance.

Inside, you’ll find 20-foot pitched ceilings with original wood beams, a staircase crafted through the old dumb waiter shaft, and a spacious layout featuring a warming area, indoor/outdoor bar, mezzanine seating, and a second-story terrace (currently closed for repairs). On a clear day, the terrace offers sweeping views of the Atchafalaya River — perfect for sunsets, starlit nights, and unforgettable photos.

I’m Colleen Nicklas Askew, and together with my husband Carter, we opened The Old Building on September 25, 2020. What started as a rundown building in the heart of downtown has become a place where our community celebrates weddings, milestones, and special moments. With the support of our four children — Abigail, Andrew, Adam, and Aaron — we’re proud to share this space with you.
